CARAMEL PARTY MIX is my family’s favorite treat this time of the year. And, I only make it this time of the year. It’s a little hard to resist and keeps well in and airtight container. However, it never lasts long enough for that to be an issue.
Ingredients
- 12 cups popped corn
- 6 cups Fritos (original)
- 9 cups Crispix cereal
- 1 cup mixed nuts
- 3 cups small pretzel twists
- 1 1 lb bag M&Ms
Caramel Mixture
- 2-1/4 cups packed light brown sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 2/3 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
Servings:
Instructions
- Place all ingredients, except M&M's in a large roasting pan. A disposable pan works great for easy clean up.
Caramel Mixture
- In a large sauce pan, combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and salt. Bring mixture to a slow rolling boil. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent mixture from scorching. Remove from heat and add baking soda. The caramel will bubble up and increase in volume.
- Pour over dry ingredients and gently mix to coat dry ingredients. Bake in a 200° oven for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
- While mixture bakes, place two large sheets of parchment paper on counter. Turn mixture out onto paper to cool. Break up large clumps while warm and add M&Ms. When cool, store in an airtight container.
