I know, I am a little crazy about fall…the temps, the colors, the sites  and the food are all favorites of mine.    It is such a fun time for decorating the house and the yard.  I know our time here in Minnesota is very limited when we will be able to enjoy anything left in the garden before our first hard freeze arrives and closes the door on all the beautiful garden color.  We have had a longer than normal growing season, and I guess it is time.  This is my last  fall outdoor display of the season that will involve any colorful blooms.  Garden clean up is on the schedule for next week.

img_0324I found this wonderful penny rug at an antique shop last fall and now it is finally time to display it again.  It is always hard for me to pass up this much hand work and wonderful colors as well.  It is perfect on my table in the front entrance.  The wool circles were stitched on a burlap background with a hand blanket stitch.  It was then backed with a piece of fabric and simply hemmed with a double 1″ hem.

img_1507A few weeks ago, I found a picture of my grandmother’s barn that I fondly remember playing in as a child. Just before it was demolished, I took a picture of  it (now 40 years ago.)  I have been looking for the picture for years, and was so excited when I came across it this last month.  I decided to paint a picture of it to use outside in our covered porch for a while until the weather gets too cold.  I can see it from a number of rooms in the house.  It is my newest “fall” accessory, I will certainly find a spot indoors for it indoors as well, but for now, it certainly adds a nice pop of color to the porch.

img_0025I am busy getting samples ready for Fall Quilt Market in Houston.  The samples need to be sent off next week.  I will give you a  sneak preview next week before I leave for market.

I have had a few questions about the availability of the Garden Collage fabric collection used in the Spinners quilt pattern I posted last week.  If it is not available in your area, please call Quilt Haven on Main at 888-843-8215 or 320-587-8341.  As of yesterday, they had the collection in stock and can ship you what you need.img_0394

    Hi Lynette,
I had just about finished writing my comments to you and wanted to go back and read what you said about the barn photo. I wanted to get my facts right before I wrote, so of course I did something and ended up losing It all!
So now I must give you a short version of my thoughts on this post.
I loved and enjoyed reading every single word and loved all the photos you included too. I’m so glad you found the lost photo of your grandmother’s barn. You did a beautiful job painting it. I don’t even want to know how long it took you to do it! Probably a couple of hours if that!! You seem to excel at everything your put your mind to. You are an inspiration to all of us!! Thank you for sharing so much with your readers!!

The barn painting actually took me a morning to do. After I block in the main color and shapes and go back and add the highlights to give some definition. I this case, I had the actual photo to guide me. An interesting note….when my sister arrived from CO for my son’s wedding at the house, she immediately gravitated to the barn painting and loved it. Her comment was, “wow, that reminds me of Grandma Halverson’s barn…I love it”. I hadn’t yet told her the little story about the lost picture.

      Hi Kay,
Yes, Autumn Landscape came out this summer. Best you get some now. I know RJR won’t reprint the collection. If you need a source, call Quilt Haven on Main at 888-8438215 or 320-587-8341. They have some in stock and would be able to help you. However, this is the season for fall quilting so don’t put off your call.

Your fabrics are so wonderful, love your color pallet. Do you have a suggestion where I can get the patterns for Vintage Stitches quilt from 2006. I did your club and made this quilt and would like to do another but cannot find the patterns. Thank you so much. Patty Sauter.

I am sorry, but that patterns is all sold out. Even our files are too old to reprint them for you.
Have you checked eBay. That is a good resource for what is called the “secondary market”. You might get lucky.

Thank you, but they were the embroidery patterns and not the quilt block patterns. Appreciate the effort. Am still looking.

I am looking for the vintage stitches quilt block patterns from 2006. I made this quilt and love the blocks so much I want to make it again with different fabrics but cannot find the patterns. I must have loaned them and not gotten them back.

            Hi,
I have checked with my former employees and no one has a set of patterns. Even the archive set was sold. However, you know, the blocks were a variety of 12″ blocks, of which any grouping of 12″ would work. What made Vintage Stitches so unique was the fabric with the “embroidery” designs printed on that could be used as is or stitched to embellish. I know those for certain are no longer available and since the program was issued almost 11 years ago, it will be almost impossible to locate any of that yardage. So, unless you have that fabric, the quilt will be more than difficult to replicate. In a book I published with Landauer, Block by Block to Beautiful Quilts, the Vintage Stitches quilt blocks and setting were included, but of course without the focal fabric.
I substituted the floral I used in the border and it work beautifully. That book is available from landauerpub.com as a PDF download or you might find on a search on Ebay or Amazon. Hope these suggestions help you out.

Please call Quilt Haven on Main right away. Their number is 888-843-8215 or 320-587-8431. They should be able to help you out, but don’t put off the call. The fabric will not be reprinted by RJR and fall fabrics are very popular right now.
