Shortly after being coaxed back into the fabric design world I was encourage by the staff at RJR Fabrics to submit a design for a quilt that Craftsy could be used for a Block of the Month class for 2016.  Well, here we are.  The class materials are ready, the filming for the class sessions is completed, and the kits are ready to go.  This quilt pattern and kit is an exclusive for Craftsy and you can register for the on-line class at Craftsy.com.

I used the Home Again fabric collection as the inspiration for the Garden Charm Quilt. It is bright and airy…perfect for the beginning of the year when many of us are looking forward to spring and summer in the coming months.  For those of you who experience warmer weather all year long, the colors probably fit right into your decor. The quilt is queen size and the design is what I am calling a modified medallion quilt. There is a central design with pieced sections and pieced borders radiating out from the center.  There is a touch of very easy appliqué that is machine appliqued.  Of course, those of you who love hand appliqué will probably choose to add that special touch to your quilt and with interesting quilting in those border areas, the appliqué could be optional. There is a colorful pieced piano key border that marches around the outer border just before the quilt is finished out with the large floral border that ties all the colors in the quilt together.  The quilt is divided into 6 class sessions, so you will be following the classes on line for 6 months.  We thought you might like that rather than stretching it out for a whole 12 months.  As with all my patterns, I tried to make the piecing as easy and straight forward as possible.  No special tools are required…only a rotary cutter, cutting board and wide acrylic ruler.  Those same dependable tools all quilters use.

Garden Charm Pillow Shams

I also designed Garden Charm Pillow Shams and selected a group of thread that are perfect for the suggested appliqué fabrics in the quilt and pillow shams.  These items are also available from Craftsy.  The pillow shams will complete the whole bed ensemble, a nice finishing touch to a beautiful quilt.

I am so interested in finding a Garden Charm Block of the Month 2016 Quilt Kit. I know Craftsy has been out of them for a long time; I have looked for fabric, pattern, everything to no avail. Would you happen to have one of these kits available for purchase? THANKS.

I am fairly new to quilting. I’m on my third quilt and I am doing your Garden Charm Quilt that you designed for Craftsy. I absolutely love it. I’m half way done with it and the more I get done the more I like it. You did a wonderful job with introducing me to new techniques. Great videos and great instructions.
Thank you!! I would love to see you do more of these.

The pattern for the pillow shams was a Craftsy exclusive so they are the only resources and I have no idea if any are still in stock.

Why is this kit still being offered if it is sold out or there are no longer instructions to go w/ it.? I would love to make this quilt but will not order it w/ out instructions or a kit to purchase w/instructions. What does the $69+price include? Thank you.
P.S. I have enjoyed your quilts patterns and fabrics for years. ☺️

The Garden Charm quilt was a project I designed specifically for a Craftsy Block of the month for 2016.
They did sell the kit and think the consumer needed to download the instructions and watch the instructional video I filmed for them. I know it was offered in the first 6 months of 2016. I was not involved in the pricing of the project or how it was made available so unfortunately can’t answer your questions. There is a good chance, they purchased an amount of fabric from RJR for a predetermined number of kits they were hoping to sell, and then sold out and that is why it is no longer available.
I know they are a very difficult company to get in touch with. There is no phone number and they communicate solely electronically, making it hard for those who would like to speak to a “real person”.
I know the fabric is no longer being printed so I can’t help you with that either. I guess I haven’t been of any help to you at all but at least you have some answers.

When you buy the kit you automatically get access to the online class, where you can print out the instructions. I only need to add the outer border and my top will be finished! Love this quilt. Fabrics are so pretty!

I just ordered this quilt kit and downloaded the instructions and am waiting for it to arrive. As near as I could tell, the 2 options that came with backing fabric were sold out, but it looks like the kit w/o the backing was available. I don’t mind getting my own backing, but if this kit does not come, I’ll have a real problem and will contact visa.

The class for this quilt is a FREE class on line from Craftsy. It is the only way the pattern for that kit is available. If you search for Garden Charm by Lynette Jensen, there should be an opportunity to add the class to a shopping cart at no cost and it will be delivered to you on line in 6 or 7 sessions.
Did you check your kit completely to make sure a printed pattern was not included. At one time, I thought that was the plan. I, unfortunately, have no control over Craftsy’s procedures. It was a exclusive project done for them. They communicate exclusively on line, which I know is very frustrating, even for me. I hope you have luck getting what you need.

You can download the pattern on line from Craftsy. It is the only way to get the instructions for this quilt kit. You can watch the 6 part lessons on line for each section of the quilt for FREE. This is available from crafts.com. When you get to their home page search for Garden Charm 2016 Block of the Month by Lynette Jensen. I think this should get you to the section you want.

Do you know how to contact ‘Craftsy’? I cannot find their contact information on their website. Sorry for the inconvenience, and have a Happy Thanksgiving. I’m making your Garden Charm Quilt for my sister

I do not have a contact number. They do everything on line nothing by phone, which I have found to be very frustrating for everyone, me included. On there website at the very bottom, they do have a list of categories that you can click on that will lead you to a web page that should be able to direct your specific question. Have you tried that?

I don’t have any knowledge of Craftsy’s plans, but if they don’t, I know you can get it from Quilt Haven on Main here in Hutchinson. Give them a call and they can send out what you need. Their number is 888-843-8215 or 320-587-8341. Do so now, so they don’t run out as well.
      Thanks,

I am looking for Block 1 for the 12 block pattern series named “A Quilter’s Garden”. Somehow I have misplaced the instructions for this block. How can I go about getting a replacement? I have the other 11 blocks patterns. Thank you in advance for anything you can do for me to help me resolve this issue.

That series has was completely sold out. I don’t even have an archive copy left. What I can suggest is that you repeat one of the other blocks that you like and mix up the fabrics so it won’t look exactly the same. I think you will be please with the result.

The pattern is a download/video. you will be watching 7 episodes which by now will be all available at once and you will not have to wait for monthly installments. Craftsy does not print patterns. Contact them for downloading instructions. Perhaps that information was available on their website where you purchased the kit. I think on line episodes were free. I really dont have anymore information about their procedures. However, if you can’t get answers from them, contact me again and I will try to help.

I am making this quilt with you on Craftsy. My sewing machine is small and machine quilting anything larger than a baby quilt is a bear. I was thinking about quilting it as I go. But, I don’t want to get to the quilting part and realize that I’ve missed a fun quilting lesson. Do you recommend I quilt as I go or wait?

    Thanks,

    Cindy

      Hi,
If you want to quilt as you go, I suggest you not wait for the “lesson” on quilting and finishing. In that lesson, I discuss quilting options, not how to quilt a certain way. And if you wait…you will miss your chance to quilt it as you go. I really admire you tackling machine quilting this large quilt on your home machine. My sample was quilted by Clarine Howe, a long arm quilter that I have been using for years. I have never attempted quilting a quilt on my machine and the only quilting I have done is by hand.
You certainly will be ahead of the curved if you quilt as you go. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your Garden Charm quilt.
      My Best,
      Lynette

Do you have or would you consider making a king-size Pattern for that kit? I would be happy to buy two kits if I could get a king size pattern from you

      Hi,
The pattern is an exclusive for Craftsy so they own the rights to it. They would have to offer a different size pattern. I can tell you, however, that you could make the queen as is and add another piano key border beyond the outside queen size border and then add more of the floral border print to fit your specific bed and bedding.
A little work on some graph paper would help you determine the extra fabric you would need for the extra big border. There is a chance you may have enough scraps left to make the extra piano key border because the size of the individual piece is quite small. And, the colors would not have to be in the same order as the first piano key border. If you decide to do so and Cratsy doesn’t have additional fabric beyond the kit, contact me and I can put you in touch with a shop here in MN that would be happy to mail order the fabric to you.
      My Best,
      Lynette
